I know we're supposed to put some text here that's going to get you to immediately call us about our digital marketing services, but you're not going to find that here.

Instead, you're going to find valuable information about digital marketing that most agencies won't place on their landing page.

What I mean is this: We're going to get rid of the the jargon and tell you what this is in plain English.

What Is Digital Marketing: In Plain English

The term digital marketing gets thrown around a lot. It's often used as a catch-all term that invovles developing or adjusting a company's brand identity through a combination of web design, search engine optimization (aka SEO Services), online paid advertising (aka SEM Services) and a social media campaign.

Sometimes, if the budget allows it, the brand/rebrand will also drip into any printed media, such as shirts, pens, vehicle wraps, business cards, etc.

Another thing digital marketers do is help you or your sales team learn how to integrate and use telecom software, such as Skype or Zoom Video Conferencing. The advantage telecom provides is that our often-in-person-salespeople are able to comfortably and effectively make sales and keep in touch with existing clients on a personal level that phone calls can't compete with.

Digital Marketing & Paid Advertising

There are a few channels you can invest in: Search engines (Google AdWords and Bing Ads), and social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.). While big-budget companies tend to invest in all of the channels simultaneously, most small and medium-sized businesses don't. There are a few reasons for this.

The first is the budget: advertising across multiple channels gets very expensive very quickly; the second reason is a necessity: many products and services are only suited for one or two advertising channels anyway. For example, a restaurant might focus on local advertising and an eye-candy campaign on Facebook/Instagram.

In short, it will come down to what you sell, who you sell it to, and how much you're willing to invest in paid advertising.

Another way some digital marketers increase your online presence is through optimizing your website itself, which falls under the jargony term SEO. This term, like digital marketing, is it's own birds nest that needs to be untangled to understand. We've done this in two places:

But here's the short (kinda) version.

Websites have two parts to them: the back-end and the front-end. The back-end is often the technical end. This includes code it's written in, the platform it's on, it's over-all speed and the host. The front-end involves the graphics, the layout, and the words written all over it. Search Engines look at both of those things to differing degrees. Together, all of those things combine into what we call SEO.

So, let's use the words written throughout your website as a quick and loose example:

The words written throughout your website are grabbed (i.e., indexed) by Google and Bing. What's written, in-turn, becomes the keywords associated with your website. If you used good, relevant keywords throughout your content, your site would tend to rank higher than your competitors who haven't picked good keywords. The jargon the industry uses for this concept is Organic Rank.

Notice the word Organic. This is different than paid ads. That is, you can't pay for organic ranking. Instead, you pay for the research, writing, and development side of web design that influences your organic rank.

Why is digital marketing popular?

While brick and mortar stores and face-to-face sales are still the cornerstones of many businesses, many people are going online to shop. For many companies, this means that they need to begin selling their products and services online.
